2021-09-12: All In? Intro to the 10 Commandments

Luke 14:25-35 / Lord’s Day 34 Q&A 92,93

Summary: If Jesus’ words are not in themselves striking enough, it adds to their poignancy to consider that Jesus is about as popular at this point as he’s ever been in his ministry. Where we would likely be inclined to rally and stoke the enthusiasm of the crowd, Jesus seems to do almost the opposite. He essentially tells them that they’d better make absolutely sure they’re ready to submit entirely to him, or else they should just turn around and go home–they’re not really ready to be disciples. This fall, we’re going to heed Jesus’ admonition to ‘count the cost’ of being his disciple by working our way through the 10 commandments. The 10 commandments are the marching orders of a disciple offer a great way for us to evaluate, “Am I really all in on being a follower of Jesus?” They’ll also provide us a blueprint for (re)committing ourselves to following him in all areas of our life.
