Church Council consists of the Pastors and all Elders and Deacons (pastoral and ministry). The prime purpose of council is to promote a total kingdom vision for Calvin CRC by setting out a strategic plan for each year and reviewing progress of this plan during the year.

Ministry Board  has primary authority for administering the day-to-day affairs of the church, and overseeing the implementation of decisions made by Council. It provides strategic leadership and oversight for all church ministries (except Discipleship, Prayer & Worship Committee’s which report to Consistory) and directs the management of its resources. It normally meets on the 3rd Monday of each month.

Ministry Board Highlights

1. Can you describe this ministry to us please?  What is its purpose?
The Ministry Board is a group of elected administrative elders and deacons who have been tasked with managing various administrative duties of Calvin CRC

2. How often does it meet, and where?
We meet on the 3rd Monday of the month at the church at 7pm.  In addition, we are each a representative on one or more sub-committee which meets at other times.

3.  What do you do on/during a typical meeting time?
We have an agenda to go through which includes:

  • updates and decisions around each subcommittee,
  • working through a regular schedule of administrative tasks
  • and discussions and decisions around special issues that arise.
The subcommittees include:
    • finance
    • property management
    • fellowship, outreach
    • staff relations
    •  and safe church
    • communications.
We also get updates from the Elders and Deacons.
Administrative tasks include:
  • planning congregational meetings
  • updating the policies and procedures manual
  • approving the budget and
  • re done.ensuring audits a

4.  How do you think this ministry fits into the vision of Calvin  “to become more passionate followers of Jesus Christ, used by God to transform lives through confident outreach, wholehearted worship, enfolding fellowship and lifelong discipleship?”
The work of the ministry board enables the rest of the ministries of the church.  We also seek to exemplify God’s call of lifelong discipleship in our service.5.  Do you have a story about how this ministry has impacted those who are participating in it?
Sometimes the administration goes smoothly and sometimes there are significant challenges.  In the difficult times we are given opportunity to exercise Christian unity in the face of disagreement, faith in the face of the unknown, and trust for provision in the face of what looks to be a mountain.

6.  How can we assist this ministry and pray for it?
There is always a need for volunteers in all of the committees associated with Ministry Board.  We can testify that there are rewards in service.  We also ask for prayers around unity and wisdom and for enough volunteers to continue the work and share the load.
