Genesis 2:4-25
Summary: Among many other important themes, Genesis 2 reveals that human beings are created to be deeply relational creatures. The reason the entire law of God can be summarized as ‘love God and love neighbour’ is because this is the fundamental purpose for which God created us: to be in relationship with himself and with each other. All of our deepest pains in life are directly connected to the ways in which sin has impacted these relationships. Genesis 2 challenges us to examine our lives to see how well we have prioritized and nurtured our relationships with God and others. As redemptive history unfolds, we better understand why God created us to be so relational–because He is in Himself a community of perfect relations between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Christ has come to restore us to the perfect relationships (and joy) for which we were created.
