Genesis 1:26-31
Summary: Genesis 1 bestows an honour upon human beings that was unparalleled in the ancient world and remains very distinct from many of the anthropologies of our day. We are endowed with God’s image and given the responsibility of representing His gracious rule over His beloved creation…all of us: males and females, adults and children of every tribe and nation and shape and size and ability level. Though our fall into sin has tragically marred the image of God in us and resulted in untold devastation, still God came in Christ (the perfect image) to restore us to our created glory–to once again bear the likeness of Jesus (e.g. 2 Cor. 3:18). This unimaginable dignity shapes our understanding of ourselves, of our fellow human beings and of our responsibilities in this beautiful creation.
