Acts 9:1-22
Summary: Acts 9 tells a story that is beloved for its magnificence but that might leave some Christians (particularly those raised in the church) wondering about the legitimacy of their own faith. Why hasn’t the work of God’s Spirit been as powerful and as evident in my life as it was in Saul’s? But if what scripture says about us is true, then the Holy Spirit’s role in bringing any one of us to faith is no less essential than it was for Saul (and if we’ve never found ourselves as lost as Saul once was, it’s only by God’s grace). Saul’s story reveals for us the astounding compassion with which Christ establishes his kingdom; taking His enemies and making them His servants and friends through the power of the Holy Spirit. It’s what he’s done in the life of every believer, and it’s the gracious mission for which he empowers us and sends us out into the world.
