Psalm 148
Summary: There is such a thing as a general spirit of gratitude aimed at no one in particular. In fact, it’s a sentiment that’s not uncommon around Thanksgiving Day–calls for us to be grateful but with no mention of the one to whom we should direct our gratitude. That kind of thanksgiving simply won’t do for the writer of Psalm 148. He insists on emphatically pointing us and all of creation to the One to whom all our praise and thanksgiving is due. As Christians, thanksgiving is not simply a general sentiment or attitude…it is the joyful pursuit of the God who reveals His love and character in His gifts.
