Genesis 3
Summary: Ever since the serpent convinced Adam & Eve to choose their own wills ahead of God’s will, history has been rattled by the human cry, “my will be done.” The third petition of the Lord’s Prayer is the antidote to the human condition. It reminds us that “your kingdom come” isn’t simply about something that needs to change ‘out there,’ but about something that needs to change within my own heart. God’s kingdom comes only where God’s will is done–without exceptions, without back talk, and with joy. Humanity fell in a garden saying, “My will be done;” we were rescued in a garden by a Saviour who prayed, “Your will be done.” As such, it is our call to follow in his footsteps.
