Isaiah 6:1-8
Summary: Though Isaiah was likely a pretty righteous man in comparison to many of his fellow Israelites, when brought into the presence of God’s holiness, he becomes overwhelmed by the ugliness of his sin by comparison. Holy literally means “separate” or “apart” and is a description of God’s incomparable supremacy over all that he’s created. That’s why even the sinless angels cover their faces and feet in his presence. Beginning his ministry with a humbling encounter with the holiness of God ensured that Isaiah would have a whole new perspective on how patient and gracious God is with his sinful people. And so it is with us; the more we understand the awesomeness of God’s holiness, the more astounding is his grace in Jesus Christ.
