Mark 10: 28-31
Summary: Jesus was never shy about the fact that following him means being willing to risk everything for his sake. That message comes through loud and clear in his interaction with the Rich Young Ruler in the preceding verses. But the question he seeks to answer in these verses is whether or not it’s worth it. Particularly as we contemplate the suffering and plight of our persecuted brothers and sisters this Sunday, is their suffering and sacrifice worth it? Jesus’ assurance in this text is that he will always give more than he asks; and one day, many who are first will be last, and all those who sacrificed and suffered for his sake will receive eternal blessing and glory that will forever dwarf the costs of following him.
