Daniel 7:1-14
Summary: Though it’s easy to assume it’s a title of humility, when Jesus calls himself the “Son of Man,” he’s actually identifying himself as the figure mentioned in verse 13ff (“one like a human being” is literally “one like a Son of Man”) whose dominion will last forever and whose kingship will never be destroyed. The beasts in the vision represent human kingdoms who have sought dominion apart from or even in competition with the authority of God. Such human power becomes ‘beastly.’ This vision ensures that no such beastly power will last. One day, the only Kingdom that will remain will be the one given to Jesus, the Son of Man.
