Colossians 3:1-11
When Paul tells us that our life “is hidden with Christ in God,” he means there’s something true about us that can’t be seen just by looking at us; namely, that we are immortal saints. Having been raised with Christ, we’re already perfect in God’s eyes (saints) and already possess eternal life (immortal). When Paul tells us to set our minds on things above, he’s telling us to meditate on our real (though currently hidden) identity in Christ. And Paul says that the practical fruit of such heavenly meditation is holy living. The more we know and love our identity in Christ (and what will be revealed about us when he returns), the less we are enticed by sinful desires.
