Genesis 6:9-8:22
Summary: The story of the flood confronts us with two realities of which we are often inclined to lose sight: the severity of human sin and the supremacy of God’s holiness. We can only make sense of the story if sin is actually far worse than we’re inclined to believe and God’s holiness is far more offended by it than we’re inclined to understand. And it’s only in understanding those two realities that we also come to understand what an astoundingly gracious thing it was for God to provide the shelter of the ark–evenmorso, the astounding grace of providing the ultimate shelter from judgment in His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus is our ark, and the door of his grace still stands open and his voice still calls, “Come unto me and rest….”
