Colossians 3:22-4:1
Summary: Our text is chosen in light of the fact that it’s Labour Day weekend. Although Paul addresses the working culture of his day (i.e. slaves and masters) the principles he articulates offer a timeless perspective on the Christian view of work and what it means to be faithful as employees and employers. He instructs slaves/workers to work with diligent integrity, regardless of how they’re treated or whether their work is acknowledged. He instructs masters/bosses to treat their workers, not according to the custom of the day, but with justice and equity. Both of these commands come from the conviction that Jesus is Lord of slave and master alike, and He delights in and rewards all work (no matter how seemingly menial or mundane) that is done for His glory and according to His design.
