2016-11-06: More and More Glory and Praise play

Philippians 1:1-11

This is the sixth and final sermon of a 6-part series on our new Vision Statement. This Sunday morning we’ll focus on the phrase “….life-long discipleship.” The opening verses of Philippians hold together two great (although seemingly paradoxical) truths of scripture: God loves us unconditionally just the way we are, and yet God will never be satisfied to see us stop growing in our walk with Him. This latter truth is especially reflected in the content of Paul’s prayer for the Philippians where Paul identifies that discipleship involves life-long growth in knowledge and discernment (v.9), life-long growth in purity and fruitfulness (v.10-11), and life-long growth in our desire to bring glory and praise to God (v.11). The Christian can never be satisfied to stop hungering and thirsting for these things.
