Matthew 5:27-30
Summary: With advances in technology, ours is an age of unparalleled access and anonymity when it comes to sexual sin. When Jesus instructs us to gouge out our eye and cut off our hand, he’s communicating just how ferociously intentional we need to be in the fight against sin…an admonition that has never been more relevant than it is for our age. While sex itself is an inherently good and precious gift, the misuses of that gift are destructive and dehumanizing. Here too we encounter a command that reminds us of our poverty of spirit and throws us back onto the all-sufficient grace of Jesus Christ. And it’s as we more and more learn to see Christ as pre-eminently precious that the allure of temptation begins to lose its luster.
