Luke 11:1-13
Summary: The disciple’s request, “Lord, teach us to pray” is an encouraging affirmation that prayer is a discipline that is learnable and at which we can improve–good news for all of us who know that our existing prayer lives leave room for much growth. Here as so often in Jesus’ teaching on prayer, what is foundational for a healthy prayer life is an understanding of God as our loving Father who delights to give us good things. Any experience of prayer that is joyless, expectation-less, and/or burdensome is lacking in this most precious perspective. Richard Foster says that prayer is the key that unlocks the door to the warmth, serenity, and security of our Father’s home.
