Luke 5:1-11
Summary: You’d think a professional fisherman like Peter would be thrilled to have Jesus around after a catch like this; yet his reaction is exactly the opposite: “Go away from me, Lord.” What dawned on Peter in that moment is that he was in the presence of staggering holiness, and it immediately brought to mind how sinful he was by comparison. In the presence of holiness, only one of two responses makes sense; either “Go away,” or “I surrender all.” In the end, Jesus graciously calms Peter’s fears and calls him to surrender his life for the purpose of catching people rather than fish.
