1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
Summary: When Paul first came to Thessalonica, one of the things he taught was that they were living with a false sense of security, and that unbeknownst to them a day of judgment was coming…for which they needed the Lord Jesus Christ. Now months later, it seems that some of these Christians had developed a sense of anxiety about the day of judgment and whether or not they would be saved. So Paul writes in these verses to now correct a false sense of insecurity by reminding them who they are (v.5) and of the eternal plan of God to save them (v.9-10). As such, they have no need to be afraid of the day of judgment but by faith can look forward to Christ’s return with eager anticipation.
